Seagulls at the Beach

This pictures were Feb. 3, 2006 (this afternoon) at the Ludington, Mi , beach. I hope you can see the great sign on the left of the seagulls on the posts which reads "no overnight camping". And the picture with the cliffs, has pussy willows (on the left) actually blooming this afternoon!

Some say the seagull is a rat with wings

Never mind they clean up the beach

Their wings held motionless gliding down

They sit just out of reach of the lapping waves

Screaming as they land

Again as they rise together

Motionless on the moored dock posts

Facing the windblown sand

Little three-prongs tracks left behind

Splattered white droppings not to step in

carol - your words so beautifully portrayed how i feel about these raucous birds! love 'em, hate the mess. gorgeous photos! i am jealous of your proximity to lake mi! thanks for this great piece.

Seagulls, like crows, misunderstood. Crows are the most intelligent birds going and clean up the roads (while not getting hit themselves) much like gulls clean up the beaches. Plus, anyone who's watched gulls knows each has its own personality.

Ah yes. Beautiful downtown Ludington. I've passed through it many times on the way to or from Manitowoc on the ferry. Thanks for another nice poem in words and pictures.

I can indeed see the pussy willows, and remember the time my in-laws made a Thanksgiving Day dash into the water at Luddington Beach on Lake Michigan. You have captured the sea-gulls. I can hear them screaming.

You know, Paul, this reminds me of my father back when I was a little girl. He had a real stuffed owl he got from somewhere and used it as a decoy to attract crows (to shoot, of course). He was an adventurous sort, and even tried making crow pie out the breasts. He said later in life it wasn't very good.
