Memories :
yesterday at the children's concert
for Mozart's 250 th birthday
had a fight with a man
who yelled at my 7 year old son
for playing with chewing gum.
I had called him a german pig
it sounds so much better
in German
("Deutche Schwein")
it felt strange to hurt
a stranger's feelings
so much.
I could tell by the way
his eyes looked
the ship in his grey eyes
had sunk..
hurray! i felt
I got him after he got me.
I had felt so bad
after he came close
to raphael's ear
and yelled at him
"what a pig you are!
(was für schweinerie!")
I have never seen such
behaviour! with a chewing gum!
How disgusting!"
I had placed my arms around
my children,
embracing them close
to my heart,
(it felt like a scene from
a holocaust film)
we were rounded
for the train
and before getting on
I had the courage to tell the gustapo police
off.
"Fascist german pig
you don't like people
who speak English,
do you? "
I had spoken a bit too loudly
as he turned away
i could tell
i got him.
he looked real hurt
as he walked off
with his 14 year old Luralei
and her long blond hair
why should i care?
but this morning
the victory does not feel
so good
anymore
and i don't feel like hearing
Mozart
either.

It improved somewhat as the children got older and seemed slightly less vulnerable. Our instinct as mothers and our sensitivity as creative people is a mixed blessing. I am sure we sometimes feel pleasure and appreciate beauty more intensly too.
Constructive discussion with other moms helps too. Your situation in shared by many others who are working on strategies to overcome the negatives and celebrate the positives. Certainly your ability to express the emotion is good for your soul. And since you are in Europe you get a head start on the day--while we in US are still asleep!
Here is your hug for today !**
Next time someone is mean i'll think of you both and realize
the world is a beautiful place after all...
Wasn't quite sure how to go about responding to your comment on my article about Harry Potter...sorry for the unorthodox method (pun intended). So were you saying that my observation was hogwash, or that I am witch hunting? Either way…see for yourself...it is there…and you can make of it whatever you choose. By the way, due to my German/Jewish decent, I was quite offended that anyone would attempt to do what they did.
Kind regards.
