Do you have a wealthy mind?
Would you like one?
I have a secret I shall share with you now.
I'm pocket poor. That's right, I live paycheck to paycheck, and sometimes I'm even in the red.
That's just the way things are right now.
The car I drive is used, the thermostat is set to 66º, the fridge is feeling unwanted, and bill collectors call hourly.
Our computer is a cast off from a junior high school, an old iMac (the newer version of this model is now called eMac)......
this one has a 6 Gig HD.
Temporary situation, no big deal.
This pocket poverty cannot tarnish my happiness, for I've all the riches of a wealthy mind.
I gather treasure each moment of my waking life, adding to my fortune.
This is no ordinary oppulence, but joyful abundance and happiness of a mind awake.
This exercise will enable you to enjoy the riches of a wealthy mind..........
Find a shadow.
Notice what is casting it.
I'll use the example of a tree.
While noticing the tree, see its fine branches and the shape of the tree. Looking closer, note the bark, with its textures. Smell it.
That's right, smell the bark! Now that you are this close, check for a crack or chip in the surface. See one? Good!
What shape is the chip? Is it a clean chunk out, or is it splintered and spongy? Are there tiny bugs within? If you don't see any, could there be? What would their journey into this tiny space entail? Go as far as you want, here.
Now pull back, and notice again the shadow.
Is it moving? Is it still? See if it reminds you of anything. Is the pattern pleasant, or menacing? What thoughts are invoked while you ponder this?
Now, looking at the shadow, see onto what it is cast. Is it on the pavement? Does it shadow a curb? Is there colour to the curb? Is it painted? Maybe it is just a grey cement curb. What is the texture? Is it new and smoothe, or gritty and crumbly? Is there a bug there for a bird snack? Is there an unusual stone or a discarded wrapper on the curb? Note the temperature. Now notice how you are feeling. What emotions or memories are yours right now? Can you see anything else here, or are your senses drawn to the contrasting sunhine on the ground beside your shadow? What of the sun? Carry this in your own direction and have fun with it.
Not outside?
Find a surface or shadow in your house or office. Notice the contours of your computer. See how the lines of it meld with your desk, and note the sensuality of your desk.... its woodgrain or its cool metal finish. Appreciate the shapes and colours as they paint your life's daily canvas.
You'll find exercise such as this will improve your thinking and allow you adventure wherever you are, whatever time of day or night.
Much is to be said for exploring great caverns and climbing high mountains. The rewards include expansion of your mind and spirit.
You don't have to wait for a vacation to enrich your spirit and expand your thinking.
Just explore what is before you.
Practice this and watch your happiness grow. Try this once weekly, or better yet, every day. It will become your very nature, and soon you, too, will enjoy the benefit of a very wealthy mind.

Just yesterday (or Wednesday?) on my way to the train, in the light snow, I looked down at my glove for a moment, just as a perfect snowflake fell onto it. it wasn't clumped together with another one, it hadn't lost any of its corners on its way down . . . and I found myself stopped on the sidewalk just staring at it (It reminded me of a sheriff's badge, if they have six points) for a minute or two, before all its features melted away. It was amusing to me that everything around me was non existant for those few minutes, just me and that snowflake.
Where does aspirin come from?
This is the only way to live, for me. You all are so clever!
And, Gary, aspirin comes from Willow Bark, as birch bark is an aspirin substitute.
:)
Thanks you guys. I'm gonna read that book, Sadi.
