moist like chocolate
hoof prints
still bent weeds
Dappled sunshine
wet ground cover
Soft pine needle carpet
Cone from last season
Old dead log feeding forest floor
Glorious field of sunlight
One Great tree
Burr Oak tall and mighty
Noble sentry
Riverside

Water's exit signal
Time to portage south
Eight miles on foot
Rest here first
Ancestor eyes upon me
Daughters of Mingo
Seneca's sons
Erie, Ottawa, Shawnee
Delaware grandmothers
Songs in the wind
Face turned up to the sky
As those resting below
So long ago
Only moments to you
three hundred year old tree
Rain droplets suspended in time
Shimmering diamonds between thorns
Wild birds cry above
wildflowers dried
burrs fluffy on brittle stems
await gentle brush or heavy wind
matted brown brittle leaves
grasses green and gold
coffee hues with cream
Dry twigs bleached silver
dandelion bright yellow
Winter surprise
gift of the Sun

Not for my eating, to be sure! Had I turned one up, maybe I'd have seen a beetle or worm, but probably still too fresh! It was a glorious walk.
Click on the picture, as that's where I was this morning. I've enjoyed the place for decades.
I love how you've woven the tale around this picture, it really makes you think. You have created such a peaceful feeling. I especially like the lines:
Only moments to you
three hundred year old tree
Thanks for sharing it!
Always have I escaped to the wild, since I was small.
Nature is my true love and where I belong. These were notes from this morning's walk by our beloved Signal Tree. I had thought to weave them in beautiful clever rhyme, but they were perfect as they stood!
Glad you enjoyed it.

Your browser, like the ones I tried before, is just not very nice to you!
I have an old iMac (HD of only 6 GIG!) and I had to use firefox to navigate this site best. Good luck!
gives a new twist to "trail mix", eh??
