Last Evening's Gift

I surprised five deer last night...
Walking up the road, then left and onto my little lane
We noticed each other at the same time and
They sprinted but just a bit.
They calmed and walked slowly,
Warily, as I also slowly crept.
You are so sweet, so lovely, deer
Don't worry about me. I love you!
I stood still and watched them
A while....
Bright moon burst through clouded sky
illuminating forest edge as they slowly
vanished one by one into its woodsy
waiting embrace.
Blowing kisses and sighs, I disappeared too.

you paint a picture so clear
could sense the soft staring

Deer. They ARE poetry. Soft. Silent. Subtle. Economy of movement. Keep writing about them, Cathy! (My neighbors consider them a nuisance due to their prolific numbers and the spread of Lyme disease, but my neighbors aren't Romantics, now are they...)
