As 'String Theory' gains greater notice and examination, I'll briefly propose my own humble observation in the slightest of hopes that some physicist with more certain credentials can use my idea.
As a Celtic artist, mastering the art of celtic illumination which includes complex interwoven knot-patterns into my mandalas, I have worked with 'strings' conceptually.
That is to say, the notion of a 'weave' has been central to my craft. There is a pun here as well, for my mandalas are circles, within circles, weaving patterns. I simply follow
formulas, not unlike the weaving of a sweater or a basket, and the end result far exceeds whatever I may have anticipated when I started.
To further describe the art, I follow a formula-technique of weaving, resulting in a magnificent, if also 'elegant', display of knots and vibrating forms. It amazes me even more than my audience that the image emerges with remarkable complexity and beauty. But ( and here is the miraculous part!), the design, with all its apparent units
and 'parts' (read "particles") is ACTUALLY ONE LINE! It is a circle bending and knotting
giving the illusion of many facets and separate parts. It is one complete circle!
As incredible and incomprehensible as it may at first strike us in our imaginations, is it possible that the 'strings' of string theory are, in fact, only but the illusory 'knots' of a SINGLE STRING?!
The Theory of Everything truly would then be the THEORY OF EVERYTHING!
For the Fabric of Reality would, in truth, be woven with the SINGLE STRING!
(I hope to be in touch with some academic professional, associated with this field, who might let me know if there is a helpful paradigm offered through this art.
Otherwise, I suppose, I'll be in touch with some therapist or counsellor who'll be able to help me back to what I'm trained in.....painting, music, and art, and leave the physics to the scientists.)
