A lot has been said about mind over matter.
Can we really effect the outcome of an event, or even change reality?
Some say no, that reality is stagnant and that is that.
Others not only claim the possibility, but are doing it.
Consider, if you will, the civil rights movement of the 60's.
Reality was, if you were black (especially in the south) you could be lynched and there would be no one to prosecute the perpetrators.
Reality: these persecuted and oppressed marched for their rights and were beaten back by the police.
Reality: thousands of Americans saw this on TV, made their way south to march with them, and the great change surged forward.
These folks saw their reality, and also they saw a greater reality of equality and dignity. They affected their own reality!
Was it fantasy to think a black could safely walk the streets alone without fear? Yes it was.
Was it reality to think a black could safely walk the streets alone without fear? Yes it was.
Same coin, same side, different perception.
Today, we are told we cannot stop big government and corporations raping earth's precious resources.
We are told we cannot stop those in power from taking all for themselves, leaving precious little scaps to divide amongst the rest.
Is it fantasy to say big government will bend to the power of Nature and the will of the many?
Is it reality to say this?
Yes, it is reality, because it is not us and them, it is we.
We are all connected, whether we like it or not, so we can achieve our purpose, our envisioned reality.
Examine if you will the power of an idea.
It is not radical to say If I think it, it is so.
Can we fly? Yes!
Do we communicate instantaneously through our computers?
Yes we do.
This was the stuff of fantasy, yet it is all reality.
Consider fiction.
Who of you has not felt the exhilaration whilst reading a well written story or seeing a movie? Who has not felt, and still has that memory of divine emotion from conquest, love, or loss?
Is not that experience a reality? Do you not still remember, and are you not still inspired? Does it yet affect your choices or your perceptions in life?
Once I was camping with about 650 others in a valley in Wisconsin. At one point during the week, we were warned a tornado was nearby and headed our way. We gathered together and, with the direction of the weather workers, visualized a great wedge in the sky. We made this wedge our reality, and we set about making our plan for survival.
There was a storm, but it wasn't so bad. Windy, yes, but no tornado.
Aparently, the tornado had actually split a mile or so before our valley, travelled in two parts on either side, and came back together several miles past us. You can believe this or not, but I was there and I know it to be truth.
Was this mind over matter? Was the wedge just fantasy? Was it reality?
What if it's not about mind over matter, but mind is matter is mind and so on?
Consider the teachings of texts like the Bible:
Proverbs 23:7 tells us as we think in our hearts, so are we.
Luke 17:6 has Jesus saying if we have faith as a grain of mustard seed, we could tell a sycamine tree to uproot itself and be planted in the sea and it would obey us!
Is this the stuff of fantasy?
Or is it a revelation of our connectedness to the all?
What about the experiments of Dr. Masaru Emoto, which show the effects of environment, music, and thought on water structure?
His studies have shown what happens to water when subjected to various stimuli. Through photography of a dark field microscope, he shows the differences. "The energy or vibration of the environment will change the molecular shape of water." This is profound!
If, therefore, the effect is so dramatic on water, imagine the effect on us, as we are mostly water! In fact, most of this planet is water.
If we are all connected; if we have the vision, the perception of a certain reality, it can be and is so.
Reality is only yesterday's so-called fantasy.
I challenge you to observe and create your vision, your own reality! We can change the world...... this is not fantasy, but divine reality!
Thomas H.'s Gather article on Quantum Physics gives more detail about how we can affect our reality.

Rather esoteric, but quantum physics allows for different realities to be present at the same time. You want to eat lunch out today. You can choose the Mexican restaurant up the street or the Thai place down the street. Regardless of your choice, there is a universe somewhere where your counterpart has chosen the other.
This certainly gives new meaning to having your cake and eating it too!
I think that belief can affect reality, having seen some of the strange things like you describe occur. Imagine what we could do as inhabitants of this place if we all imagined ourselves happy, housed, clothed, fed and at peace?
That was really bad poetry, but a great read! (OK, the poetry wasn't so terrible either).
As an aside, have you ever seen the movie "Mindwalk " with Liv Ulman and Sam Waterson. It didn't have a wide circulation, but is very much about quantum "stuff". You'd enjoy it, after reading this by you.
Much to the delight of the pro-psychic crowd, a statistically significant difference was found. Much to their dismay, it was an incredibly small effect--if I remember correctly, <0.1%. In other words, the experiement was designed to have 50-50 outcomes, and instead of getting a results such as 50.01%+-0.02%, it was more like 50.05%+-0.02%. (Don't quote these numbers--this was from a class I took a long time ago in which this experiment was used as an example).
This is statistically interesting because, if you run an experiment with enough replicates, one will get a statistically significant result--not by discerning an true effect, but by discerning small biases that result from the design of the trial.
It is psychically interesting, because when psychic effects are tested in a scientifically rigorous manner (and by people who understand how people can be tricked--professional magicians are excellent consultants for this), the results are almost always indistinguishable from chance
I know there are some things I cannot explain, and I don't really care if it can be considered psychic phoenomena, I do know we can envision a reality and make it so.
There certainly is magic in envisioning a reality and making it so. But I don't think it's a matter of invoking magic formulas & psychic phenomena. (Quantum mechanics is currently popular as magical thinking, but only among those those who cannot do the math. Those actually working in the field say no way.)
I'd say the magic comes in looking for the opportunities to change reality, and the optimism to beleve you can.
You said,
"I'd say the magic comes in looking for the opportunities to change reality, and the optimism to beleve you can."
Which makes the point for the civil rights movement, I would think.
What a beautiful way to phrase it, though!
You said,
"Quantum mechanics is currently popular as magical thinking, but only among those those who cannot do the math. Those actually working in the field say no way."
While I can see your other points, this one is certainly a variable.
Consider:
Amit Goswami, Ph.D. who is professor emeritus at the University of Oregon, Eugene, quantum scientist at the Instituet of Noetic Sciences, wrote a textbook Quantum Mechanics and is author of eight books based on his research of Quantum Physics and consciousness.
John Hagelin, Ph.D. world renowned quantum physicist, educator, author, and science and public policy expert. Has conducted pioneering research at CERN (European Centre for Particle Physics) and SLAC (Stanford Linear Accelerator Centre). Is the director of the Institute of Science, Technology and Public Policy. Winner of Kilby Award, which recognizes scientists who have made "major contributions to society through their applied research in the fields of science and technology"
Fred Alan Wolf, Ph.D. physicist, writer, lecturer Well known for his work in quantum physics and consciousness, author of twelve books.
And a host of others working in the field. They say, OH YES!
Thanks for your imput.
