Well, those of you who didn't make it missed a treat! We got wine and munchies at the Gather offices, and I now have an official Gather tchochke (a dust squeegee for my monitor screen).
But the trip to Haymarket was *terrific*!
I'd write more, but it's very late, as my son and I just got back from a science fiction convention downtown, and it's past 1am.
Today, since I knew I wasn't going to be spending significant time home all weekend, I limited my budget to ten dollars.
six bunches of scallions $1.50
4 large bananas .50
2 bunches watercress 1.50
1 bunch asperagus 1.00
1 pound portabellos 2.50
3 pounds red grapes 2.00
4 fuji apples 1.00
5 huge green plantains 1.00
Total: $10.50
Ok, so I pulled extra pocket change for the bananas!
Not bad.
That is a lot of scallions. Two bunches are going to be mixed with shiro miso paste for rice ball filling, which will keep nicely in the fridge. Two bunches will go chopped into a couple freezer bags for later use in recipes. And the two freshest bunches will stay in the fridge for use over the coming week.
I had three new folks who'd never been, and they couldn't believe the prices, the quality, and the very atmosphere of the place.
I wish I'd been going home. I would have gotten fish.
Ah well, next week!
