I'm breaking out of my isolation. It takes work for me to do this, but I'm hunkering down, shoulder to the wheel, and making an effort.
As I was noodling around this morning wondering what to do with my day, I decided *not* to do the same old same old, and go to Luci's Mudhouse instead. Luci's is a 'paint your own pottery' studio, and they have beautiful teapots. I decided to paint one for Sultan's mom for Yule.
Since I wasn't able to go to her housewarming party yesterday, I called Fifollet and asked her if she wanted to join me. She said yes! Yay! So we're going to go be girly and geeky together, paint some pottery, and maybe go for coffee afterwards.
It sounds a bit ridiculous but I'm really proud of myself for reaching out and making plans with her. With anyone, really. Unless things are scheduled in advance, I don't normally do anything. I rarely go anywhere with girlfriends, either, unless it's a planned event with some purpose. In this case the purpose is relaxation and pleasure with a bonus - getting something done for Mom for Yule. The plan was formulated and executed in less than two hours - a first for me.
One thing I miss about living in Austin (I lived there for a year and a half) was the fact that I could, at any time, hop on my bike and go. The climate afforded me the kind of freedom I simply don't have here, what with the cold and the blanket of snow that lasts through 'till Spring. I tend to hibernate during the winter, like most sensible mammals, but this winter, I'm going to try something different. I'm going to try socializing my way through the winter doldrums instead of isolating my way through them.
Today is a good start.
