C|Net news has a special series on current and evolving web technologies, including Wikis, "tagging" and mapping. The series ends with an editorial by techno-historian/critic Dean McCollaugh.
The premise (and tagline) of the series is "new generation, technologies return web to social roots." The web continues to inspire utopianism, and where the social function of the web is seen to have fallen into mere consumerism, these innovations will supposedly bring us to the cutting edge of interpersonal and locally meaningful relationships. We'll see.
