How about a link that simultaneously sends the full text of an article and an invitation to join gather, at least for the first couple months of being public. The one person I invited so far I thought of because of reading an article I thought he would like. Or just the first paragraph of the article and the link to get the person to read it.

I agree-- the best thing about Gather is the perspective Gather members bring. Letting people share that perspective more broadly makes a lot of sense (especially once we make the content more broadly available).

Yes, this seems to me to be a great way to get people to link in or connect other potential members. Very good point, I look forward to seeing it as a feature in Gather too.
