Gather has "Pings" for communicating with people. I confess, I never ping anybody, and I rarely look at my own pings. Do you use the Pings on Gather?

Sometimes I think gather makes their "improvements" just to hack off the members. I don't understand the reasoning behind limiting the pings. Why is it such a bad thing to give or recieve . . .

As a courtesy to my fellow Gatherites, I have turned off pinging and I promise I will not ping anyone either.
Hopefully, that will cut down on some of the clutter for everyone else.

We used to ping to say "hi" to our friend connections on Gather, but now we may have to adopt other forms of communication. Dogs utilize a different form of communication to greet each other . . .
