Inviting

Inviting others to Gather
Inviting friends, family, and colleagues to Gather is a great way to keep in touch and grow your Gather network with new friends. To invite people, go the Friends menu, and choose Invite Friends. You can import email addresses directly from other email programs. Simply choose the Webmail or Social Network option, then click the Get Contacts button, which lets you select an email account or a social network to import addresses from. We've preloaded a standard invitation message, but you can customize it any way you want. Finally, click the Send Invites button. Your invitations will be sent from the email address you registered with Gather; you can change that address at any time on your account settings page.

When you share a photo album, you can invite friends and family who aren't on Gather to join and see your photos. It's a great way to share memories of a party, holiday, or vacation with folks who were there -- and those who weren't! Any time after you share a photo album, post, or video (either publicly or with your friend sets), simply view that content again to send an invitation to those you'd like to join Gather and see your stuff.

If you own a group or belong to a group that allows invitations, you can use the "invite to group" link to invite people to Gather and the group.

You can also bring new members to the site using a personal invite link. After you access the Invite feature from the Friends menu, click "invitation links" to check out the cool text banners, graphic banners, and standard links you can use. Post them anywhere on the web; people simply click on your link to join you on Gather!

Who to invite
Invite anyone! Bringing your offline friends online will help you keep in touch with the people in your world easier than ever. Invite your family, your friends -- anyone. And remember that you can create as many different friend sets as you need in order to share particular content with particular friends.

Benefits of inviting people
The more people who join Gather, the larger and more diverse the community becomes, and the site's content becomes more varied, too. Not only will you be able to find anything your friends share, including their comments, but you'll also have access to their friends. And connecting is a two-way street; inviting more people increases the number of people who will want to read your posts and give feedback on your content -- and the easier it becomes to keep in touch with each others' lives.

Old invitations
Your invitation remains open until the recipient joins. A reminder may be sent after 5 days from your initial invitation. Your friends, family, and colleagues can't become part of your My Friends network unless they register with Gather.

Personal invitation links
You can invite people to Gather using your blog, website, email, or IM. After you access the Invite feature from the Friends menu, click "invitation links" to see your options. You can choose a standard link URL, a text banner, or a graphic banner. When you copy one of the links, be sure to copy it exactly as it's displayed for the invitation to work correctly.
